Which are the most tolerant aquarium fishes to hypoxia?
Journal Title: Extreme Life, Biospeology & Astrobiology - International Journal of the Bioflux Society - Year 2009, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
In the current paper we report on the ecophysiological adaptation of the lyretail panchax (Aphyosemion australe) and Gardner’s killifish (Fundulopanchax ardneri) to hypoxia. Their adaptation to hypoxia is real and different from that of Osphronemidae or Callichthyidae which is based on breathing atmospheric air.

Microbial production of poly-β-hydroxybutyrates -an overview
Efficient poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) production represents an actual preoccupation of fundamental research from current biotechnology. Since PHB production out of renewable sources has a positive environmental impact a...
Exploring knowledge about microbes living in the extreme environments – the resources review
Extremophiles are organisms that tolerate or require to live the extreme ranges of variation of the environmental factors such as temperature, pH, salinity, concentrations of heavy metals, high hydrostatic pressure, ion...
Describing head shapes of white stem borers (Schirpophaga innotata Walker) that are able to survive on different rice types using Landmark based geometric morphometrics
Rice stem borers are considered as the most serious insect pest of rice in Asia. It infects its plant host by burrowing into the stem using its mandible. However, apart from the mandible, the head of rice stem borers is...
A short review on tardigrades – some lesser known taxa of polyextremophilic invertebrates
Tardigrades are polyextremophilic small organisms capable to survive in a variety of extreme conditions. By reversibly suspending their metabolism (cryptobiosis – tun state) tardigrades can dry or freeze and, thus, survi...
Microorganisms isolated from subsurface environments and their importance for astrobiology and theoretical biology.
Objective: the article is a review of the very controversial microbial life in subsurface environments like caves, rocks, mines, deep subsurface water and springs, in very special extreme environments. Material and Metho...
