Will CDMA survive the blitz of GSM in the Indian telecom Ecosystem?

Abstract

It is believed that in India, behind the early boom of CDMA (Code Division multiple access) was the revolutionary marketing strategy of reliance. Technology behind the CDMA makes it favorable for service provider and consumer. But despite being believed as technically improved than GSM, improper administrationof the technology has almost lead to its dead end. This year India will be touching 900 million mobilesubscribers, however CDMA subscriber base counts to 12 percent (approx.). Figures reveal that the subscriber base of CDMA is consistently decreasing from last few years in India. Decreasing average revenue per unit and subscriber base haslead the service providers of CDMA to start GSM services which is proving fatal for the technology.Furthermore shortage of spectrum has added to the condition.
