WIND FIELD OVER THE BALTIC SEA DURING POLRODEX '96 EXPERIMENT- OBSERVATIONS AND MODELLING
Journal Title: Biuletyn Instytutu Morskiego - Year 1997, Vol 24, Issue 1
Abstract
Analysis of wind conditions over the sea area near the Polish coast of the Baltic Sea was peiformed with special attention for the areas of the sea connected with the experiment POLRODEX '96. The data of wind speed and direction observations were peifonned from the ships taking part in the experiment. Wind observations from the Polish drilling platfonn .. Petrobaltic as well as from the coastal stations of He! and Gdansk Port P6lnocny were additionally analysed. Results of computations for the large-scale atmosphen·c circulation model (I.AN- Bracknell, UK), the model of wind field over the sea (KAD) developed and tested in llvfWM Gdynia were compared with the observed data. The result of the comparison between computed and observed data shows that it is necessary to pay more attention for local conditions of atmosphere-land-sea interaction in the coastal zone.
