Wkład Polaków w londyński festiwal muzyki klasycznej The Proms

Abstract

Festiwal muzyki klasycznej organizowany w Londynie od 1895 roku, znany pod nazwą The Proms, bywa określany jako festiwal największy i najbardziej demokratyczny (J. Bĕlohlávek). Stanowi on niezwykłą atrakcję dla turystów odwiedzających Londyn podczas letnich miesięcy, dostarczając równocześnie okazji do zapoznania się z rozmaitymi dziełami muzyki klasycznej prezentowanymi przez światowej klasy wykonawców. W repertuarze festiwalu – od pierwszych edycji aż po dzień dzisiejszy – obecna jest muzyka polska, a grono wykonawców niejednokrotnie zasilane było przez polskich artystów. Niniejszy tekst koncentruje się na ukazaniu polskiego wkładu w festiwal The Proms – zarówno z perspektywy wykonywanego repertuaru polskiego, jak i udziału polskich artystów. Stanowi wynik analizy obfitych zasobów archiwalnych imprezy. The classical music festival held in London since 1895, known as The Proms is sometimes referred to as the largest and most democratic musical festival (J. Bělohlávek). It is a unique attraction for tourists visiting London during the summer months, providing at the same time an opportunity to get acquainted with various works of classical music presented by world-class performers. The repertoire of the festival – since the first edition until today – includes Polish music. Polish artists often joined the bunch of its performers. The focus of the text is on the Polish contribution to The Proms festival – both from the perspective of Polish repertoire, as well as the participation of the Polish performers. It is the result of the analysis of the abundant archival materials related to the event.
