XFEM simulation on mixed-mode fatigue crack growth of functionally graded materials
Journal Title: Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Biomechanics - Year 2016, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
In present study, XFEM simulation has been carried out to investigate the fatigue life of a functionally graded material (FGM) made of aluminum alloy and alumina (ceramic) under cyclic mixed mode loading. Effect of presence of minor cracks, holes and inclusions of arbitrary sizes are randomly located in the domain along with the major crack is also investigated. Paris law is used to evaluate the fatigue life of the aluminum alloy, FGM and equivalent composite.

Composite mechanics of the multilayer structure of the annulus fibrosus
The degeneration of the intervertebral disc (IVD) rests on many factors, but some of the main ones are the absence of a blood vessel supply, excessive overloading, and cycling loadings. This deterioration may contribute...
Computational modelling and mesh independence studies for the investigation of thermal conductivity behaviour for aluminium hybrid composites
The thermal characterization of composite materials has been increasingly important in a wide range of applications. Thermal conductivity is one of the most important properties of metal matrix composites. Since nearly a...
Automobile Frontal Impact on Knee-Thigh-Hip Complex
The type of injury protection that are necessary to reduce the impact reaction force developed during automobile frontal impact on human knee- thigh- hip complex depends on the impact energy and body resistance. To find...
Assessment of different drill diameter on bone drilling
Drilling is a highly demanding machining process due to drill bit geometries complexity and the progressive material failure on the workpiece. When applied to living tissues the process assumes greater attention to ensur...
An experimental investigation on adsorption refrigeration system using silica gel-water
The soaring prices of fossil fuel and environmental issues have drawn our attention to the need for, pollution free, reliable and low cost refrigeration. Most of the existing works indicate that Adsorption The literature...
