Journal Title: Technika Transportu Szynowego - Year 2017, Vol 276, Issue 3
Abstract
BC after purchasing the Flirt emus 4- and 5-piece multiple unit, designed for handling agglomeration and local traffic, decided to purchase 7-piece multiple unit intended for IC class service. Despite the higher price of the journey, the rail routes where new emus are operated, many passengers have decided for the journey in these trains. It can be observed that novelty on the BC network is the gradual replacement of overnight trains operated by couches/sleeping cars by emus as daily trains, which is possible after raising the maximum speed on selected BC lines (up to 140 km/h), which is a consequence of the electrification of selected railway lines on the BC network. The central location of the capital city of Minsk, located at the intersection of the main railway lines in Belarus, makes it very easy to start new daily connections.
