Journal Title: Gujarat Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 72, Issue 2
Abstract
Objective : To evaluate the efficacy of the endoscope assisted tympanoplasty and comparison with microscope assisted tympanoplasty. Methods : Between December 2015 and November 2016, 61 patients of clinically diagnosed CSOM with dry central perforation underwent tympanoplasty, 30 were endoscope assisted and 31 were microscope assisted. Results of surgery were compared at the end of 2 months post operation. Results : In the endoscope group 93% of patients had a successful outcome and in the microscope group 94% of patients had a successful outcome. Conclusion: The surgical outcome of endoscope assisted tympanoplasty in terms of graft uptake was comparable to the conventional microscope assisted tympanoplasty, but in terms of cosmesis and post-operative recovery patients in the endoscope group had better results.
