A COMPARATIVE VIEW AT WORK-LIFE BALANCE LEGISLATIVE MEASURES IN EUROPE
Journal Title: MANAGERIAL CHALLENGES OF THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY - Year 2018, Vol 11, Issue 2
Abstract
Work-life balance is an axiomatic goal for individuals and one purpose of the state is to shape the framework in which such goals can be achieved. From regulating the duration of the workday, overtime conditions, minimum wage, parental leave, etc., the legislative measures taken by states provide the infrastructure on which companies and individuals further build in order to achieve work-life balance. This paper investigates the foundations of work-life balance set by such legislative measures, with a focus on analyzing how Romania ranks compared to leading EU countries in this field, as well as compared to Hungary and Bulgaria, as peer and neighboring countries. Furthermore, this paper starts exploring which variables may explain the cross-national difference in WLB.
