Journal Title: MANAGERIAL CHALLENGES OF THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY - Year 2018, Vol 11, Issue 1
Abstract
Human resources management practices have been widely recognized as key factors in enhancing hotel innovation. Although many of the implemented innovations in the hotel sector are generally based on technological development, the employees’ role remains crucial. The purpose of the study is to investigate how hotels can implement incremental and radical innovation through some specific human resources management practices: HR selection, training, rewarding and organizational support. The respondents, who had to fill in an online questionnaire, were HR managers working in hotels located in Cluj County The study highlights the vital role HRM plays in promoting innovation in hotels. The results show that selecting and hiring frontline employees with multiple skills and knowledge and training them, both have significant and positive impact on incremental and radical innovation among studied hotels. Also rewarding employees who come up with new ideas in terms of tourism related products/services or delivery processes, along with a necessary organizational support have positive effects on radical and incremental innovation. Theoretical and practical implications of the study are discussed.
