A Rare Case of Cervical Tuberculosis Mimicking Carcinoma Cervix: A Case Report

Journal Title: Indian Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Year 2016, Vol 6, Issue 4

Abstract

Cervical tuberculosis is a rare form of genital tuberculosis. We are reporting a case of primary cervical tuberculosis in a 25 year old nulligravida who presented with secondary amenorrhoea and postcoital bleeding. She was started on anti-tubercular treatment (four drugs: isoniazid, ethambutol, rifampicin and pyrazinamide) and followed up at monthly intervals with general examination, per speculum examination and colposcopy. At six months follow-up, the cervix had an almost normal appearance and there was complete relief from symptoms. This case emphasizes that though uncommon, tuberculosis is an important alternative in the differential diagnosis of a malignant appearing lesion of the cervix. With resurgence of tuberculosis worldwide, there should be a high index of suspicion of tuberculosis in women with an abnormal cervical appearance
