A sociological study of youth attitudes towards national identity and its components in Rafsanjan

Abstract
Identity has been discussed from different perspectives and it includes various types. According to McKenzie, national identity, racial identity, religious identity, and class identity constitute four main types of cultural identity. The present study explores the national identity of youth in Rafsanjan, Iran. The research sample included 372 youths living in Rafsanjan who were selected through multistage cluster sampling. The data were collected through the National Identity Questionnaire that was developed by Lotf Abadi. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including measures of central tendency such as mean and frequency tables and inferential statistics including ANOVA and Pearson correlation test. The results showed that there is a positive significant relationship between national identity and religious identity. In addition, foreign media use, gender, and education have an effect on national identity, but the effect of education on national identity is not significant.
