Journal Title: Jaunųjų mokslininkų darbai - Year 2013, Vol 40, Issue 2

Abstract

In aiming towards a common understanding and clarity about the analyzed phenomena, based on scientific literature, the article provides a conceptual scheme of interaction and approaches to the analysis of the concept of competence. Competence includes the recognition of the importance of different research approaches unanimously isolating individual knowledge, abilities, attitudes, personality characteristics, and appropriate behaviors, which constitute the basis of the work leading to a skilled and professional performance of the functions, evidence of expert knowledge, skills or ability to act. At the same time, competence emphasizes the application of knowledge and a particular situation, as well as a new assessment of the situation. This is the result of experience and learning, the multi-entity derivative, which means the ability of personal development and individual satisfaction. In foreign universities the individual‘s ability to function is developed during the so-called „sandwich“ courses, learning support practice, project-based learning approaches focusing on problem-learning, learning activities, enabling students to carry out various tests to integrate theory and practice, and the experience of learning content
