About using biomechanic principles during constructing of elastomeric linings and coverings of surfaces of technological, transporting aggregates and structures of enterprises of mining and metallurgical complex

Abstract

Elastomeric materials (rubber, polyurethane) have firmly taken leading positions as structural materials of wear-proof coverings and linings of bunkers, ore discharges, reloading units that directly contact with the processed material. Further introduction of elastomeric coverings can be facilitated by design techniques based on the principles of biomechanics. Useful during creation of multilayer coverings and linings from elastic materials can be the principles of the operation of the stomach of birds, since the model of the stomach can be represented in the form of a multilayer elastic shell in which, using muscle energy and more solid environment a «lump» of firm material is crushed. From a purely mechanical point of view, the features of the structure of the stomach provided a perfect system for protecting the muscle layer from damage and deterioration. Part of these features can be used for creation of protective rubber and polyurethane linings and coverings of machines and equipment. In this work, the general principles of creating an «idealized» lining design are presented: an elastomeric lining must be multi-layered; an upper layer (directly adjacent to the surface to be protected) must have high strength and rigidity; a middle layer must consist of highly damping material; a lower layer must consist of highly elastic wear-proof material and be protected against wear by structural methods. The following principles will be useful during creation of new, more advanced constructions of elastomeric linings and coverings of surfaces of technological, transporting, shifting aggregates and buildings.
