Abstract

The contemporary Polish Teachers Association is a resiliently functioning professional organization which unites thousands of teachers and academics representing all levels of education. The history of the PTA is the story of contemporary Polish education, particularly teacher training, development and publishing activity, at the beginning of the 20th century. Publishing activity ranges from monographs to national and regional periodicals, bulletins, handbooks, dictionaries and bibliographies. The need to represent teachers, defend their professional well-being and publish their works has motivated the association for the last 110 years. Despite difficulties that PTA publishing houses have had to grapple with, their unquestionable output represents a great contribution of Polish teachers into Polish and global culture.
