Journal Title: Journal of Veterinary Advances - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 6

Abstract

Skin samples were taken from various skin regions of 12 female and 12 male one to ten-day-old healthy Iranian native sheep (Bakhtiari breed), stained and fiber morphometrical parameters were measured. The oneway ANOVA and Duncan's Multiple Range test were used to analyze the data and detect of significant differences. The results suggested that the numbers of primary and secondary follicles per mm² of various regions of skin in Bakhtiari lambs ranged from 6-16.5, 1.83-16, respectively. The least depth of primary and secondary follicles was recorded in forearm region. Although, no difference was observed among all the various regions of skin, but the most indices were significantly affected by sex. The NS/P ratio and wool quality in Bakhtiari lambs was not satisfactory and can be classified as carpet wool breeds.
