AN UPDATES ON ANTIDIABETIC ACTIVITY OF CUCUMIS SPECIES – AN EVIDENCE BASED OVERVIEW

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic endocrine metabolic disorder widespread all over the world. Allopathy medicines can be used to treat diabetes mellitus but it causes serious complications on long term therapy. So in order to overcome these complications, various marketed herbal formulations are available and they are safer to use with minimum side effects. This review contains taxanomical classification and various pharmacological uses of cucurbitacaea family and this review mainly focuses on list of Cucumis species with active constituents having anti diabetic activity and the chemistry of few compounds isolated from Cucumis species. Finally this review helps the reader to gain more knowledge about antidiabetic activity of Cucumis species.
