Analysis of Curricula and Syllabus of Unmanned Aviation’ Specialists in US Educational Institutions

Abstract

The article deals with the training of specialists of unmanned aviation in US educational institutions. It is stated that after-school vocational education in the USA students receive in colleges with two-year or four-year programs of study. It has been revealed that not all colleges specializing in the training of aviation specialists have programs for training unmanned aviation’ specialists, in some of them such programs are in the process of implementation. The program of two-year training of specialists in unmanned aviation, which is the basis for professional training of such specialists in the United States, is analyzed. It is estimated that the two-year program of study is designed for working students, and curricula are developed in such a way as to ensure the improvement of the vocational and educational level, taking into account the student’s employment as much as possible that allows to improve or change skills of those people who already work in the industry and who need to learn new technologies. An analysis of the curriculum for the training of unmanned aviation’ specialists in two-year training programs showed that the focus is on the aviation disciplines and the operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and the much time is devoted to developing practical knowledge and skills. It was found out that among the humanities, the focus is on communicative and written skills of the English language, and electives are aimed at in-depth study of aviation disciplines and latest computer and IT-technologies that necessary to improve the knowledge and skills of future UAS’s specialists. The necessity of applying the effective experience of developed countries, in particular the USA, to form the system of professional training of unmanned aviation’ specialists in Ukraine has been determined.
