Analysis of yield components and heterosis effect variability in winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) F1 hybrids
Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2010, Vol 31, Issue 1
Abstract
Hybrids of oilseed rape obtained so far have revealed the possibility of seed yield growth of this plant through the heterosis effect. The investigations on the development of an effective breeding method of winter rapeseed hybrids are conducted using CMS ogura hybridization system. The obtained experimental F1 hybrids yield at different levels, therefore the investigations of factors deciding about hybrid yield are being carried out. For these purposes fifteen F1 hybrids and their parental lines (three CMS ogura lines and five doubled haploid-restorer lines) have been investigated in the field trials in design of completely randomized blocs, in four replications, in three environments in the crop seasons of 2007/2008 and 2008/2009. Statistical analysis of heterosis effects for investigated traits in all environments have been conducted. Moreover, the phenotypic distance between parental lines of F1 hybrids has been evaluated using Mahalanobis distance. Also, the relationship between heterosis effect and phenotypic distance for seed yield, 5 traits of yield components (number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, length of pod, number of seeds in pod, weight of 1000 seeds), oil and total of glucosinolate contents were investigated. It has been stated that the yield of hybrids and qualitative traits such as oil and glucosinolate content in seeds are significantly dependent on genotypes and environmental conditions. The heterosis effect has more important impact on the seed yield while the influence of phenotypic distance between the parental lines was not significant.

Domestic Oilseed Market in the season of 2009/2010 (prognosis)
In 2009 rapeseed crop in Poland amounted to record level of ca 2.5 million tons. The supply of rapeseed on the internal and European market considerably outpaced the demand and therefore rapeseed prices declined. If the...
A multiplex PCR assay for identification of the ogura male sterile cytoplasm and the Rfo restorer gene among oilseed rape breeding forms
Due to the fact that cross-pollination controlling male sterility systems have been developed for oilseed rape, breeders’ interest in hybrid varieties of this oil crop permanently increases. In Poland, a total of 111 oil...
