Journal Title: Вісник Житомирського державного університету імені Івана Франка - Year 2018, Vol 95, Issue 4
Abstract
analysis of the selected works of the given epoch (S. Orzechowski, K. Stavrovetsky, I. Vishenskyi, Yu. Drohobych and others). According to the analyzed medieval sources, the article interprets the existing pedagogical terminology of the medieval period based on the traditional criterion of the educational process division into learning and educational. It is proved that both teaching and education as pedagogical phenomena in the Middle Ages found their terminology in terms of content, forms, methods, means of education and upbringing. The tendency towards unification and standardization of modern pedagogical science terminology as a result of its historical development is substantiated. It is noted that the most common pedagogical terms in texts of analyzed selected works of the Middle Ages were ''science'' and ''book'', and the first term meant (according to the current traditional terminology) education, upbringing and learning. ''Book '' as a means of education and upbringing is presented in the elaborated sources. The result of children's training and upbringing in medieval sources is "well-trained", "fear of God", "scientist", "scholarship," and others. The conclusion is drawn about the certain unification of the defined terminology and the concentration around the concepts of ''science'', ''education'', ''school'', ''teach'', ''scientist ''; there is the complexity of conducting such analysis as a result of the actual absence of the necessary vocabulary and reference literature, which makes the position of translators and compilers selected for the analysis of works of the Ukrainian Middle Ages; there is the need to prepare a separate vocabulary dedicated to the pedagogical terminology of the Ukrainian Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Cossacks, and other periods of Ukrainian education and culture development, depending on the adopted periodization.
