ANNOTATION AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION IN THE SYSTEM OF ENSURING FOOD SECURITY OF THE STATE

Abstract

The effective agrarian production is the basis of ensuring food security of the state, satisfaction of the population of the basic food products in sufficient quantity and variety of assortment. Problems of development of the agrarian sector, actual trends of the world price situation on food resources, insufficient attention of the state to the problems of the industry create prerequisites for the emergence of crisis phenomena in providing food to the population. Food security is the level of food supply to the population, which guarantees socio-economic and political stability in society, sustainable and qualitative development of the nation, family, person, as well as sustainable economic development of the state. The optimal is considered to be situation when the actual consumption of food by a person over the year meets the recommended norm. The average per capita food consumption deteriorated in 6 of the 10 main food groups: dairy products, eggs, fruits, sugar, oil, and bakery products in the last year. In 2016, the average consumption of only three, most economically accessible food groups, consumption was on the level (or exceeded) the established norms: bread and bakery products; vegetables and melons; potato. The agriculture of the Ukraine during 2010–2016 showed positive dynamics, but without negative tendencies it was not enough. The production increased by 34%, exports in value terms – by 54%, the share of the sector in GDP of the country increased from 7.5% in 2010 to 11.6% in 2016. However, these, on the first glance, positive figures obscure the negative trends in the structure of agricultural production, dangerous for the economy of the country. It is highly intensive and highly effective functioning of agriculture that determines the level of production of the agrarian products and raw materials, and hence the consumption of basic foodstuffs, which determines the healthy physical and mental development of the population. The concept of food security should take into account objectively existing major contradictions in the agrarian sector, the current state and prospects of sustainable development of the Ukrainian economy.
