APPLE IN THE ALEVITE-BEKTASHI TRADITION

Abstract
Apple; accepted, commonly, as the forbidden fruit Adam and Eve ate in heaven, by the peoples connected with monotheistic religions has been used as a cultural image in the mythology of the peoples of the world. Apple, which had a remarkable place in Turkish culture, is a sacred fruit, believed to be brought by Gabriel to Ali in the Alevite-Bektashi tradition. In this study, in the light of the information determined from written and oral sources, the perception of apple of Alevite-Bektashis was tried to be revealed; regarding apple which has an important place in Turkish oral culture, different beliefs and practices in the Alevite-Bektashi tradition were exemplified; in this way the diversity of rich Turkish culture in itself was demonstrated.
