Journal Title: The journal of international civilization studies - Year 2023, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
In Kyrgyz society, kinship ties are quite strong. There is a social, cultural, military, and administrative organization that shapes from the family to the clan and nation. It can be observed that a similar organizational structure has persisted in almost all Turkic peoples from ancient times to the present day. Turkic peoples have their unique kinship systems, hierarchical groups, clan structures, and tribal organizations consisting of many tiers. However, not all elements of this organization can be clearly identified and understood. In this context, it is of great importance to research and understand the structure of a specific social institution or entity within the kinship system of the Kyrgyz people known as "Bir atanın baldarı," which refers to the offspring of one father or a father's children. The "Bir atanın baldarı" structure is considered as a unit within the sub-clan structure known as "uruk" in Kyrgyz society. The terminology associated with "Bir atanın baldarı," such as "uruk," "uruu," "oŋ kanat" (right wing), and "sol kanat" (left wing), "içkilik" is directly linked to the components of the tribal organization. Clan organization encompasses various social features at different classification levels. This study aims to provide a detailed examination of the institution and structure of "Bir atanın baldarı" through qualitative research and descriptive analysis methods. The purpose of the study is to contribute to a better understanding and exploration of the subunits related to the complex socio-cultural and administrative organization of Turkic peoples, as exemplified by the "bir atanın baldarı" in Kyrgyz society.
