Assessment of chemistry and deterioration of quality of groundwater in the upper Liswarta river basin

Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2009, Vol 436, Issue 436

Abstract

The study concernes groundwater of the Quaternary aquifer in the area of the upper Liswarta river basin. The Quaternary deposits cover the area of the central and western part of this basin, mostly in the river valleys. The detailed study was performed in 2001–2003 years. The concentrations of nitrates range from 11.4 to 167.0 mg NO[sub]3[/sub]/l. The content of sulphate ranges from 5.47 to 107.00 mg SO[sub]4[/sub]/l. In the area of the upper Liswarta river basin elevated concentration of nitrates, sulfates and sometimes chlorides of the anthropogenic origin. This paper presents the results of these studies.
