Association of ’Candidatus Phytoplasma aurantifolia’ with Cosmos bipinnatus phyllody disease in Iran
Journal Title: Journal of Plant Protection Research - Year 2017, Vol 57, Issue 3
Abstract
In 2017 growing season numerous examinations of Cosmos bipinnatus in Hormozgan province, Iran revealed the disease symptoms similar to those associated with phytoplasmas. Phytoplasmas were detected from all symptomatic plants by the specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) utilizing phytoplasma universal primer pairs. Amplification, sequencing and blast analysis of 16S rDNA fragment (ca. 1.2 kb) demonstrated that C. bipinnatus plants were infected by a phytoplasma belonging to the 16SrII group. This is the first report of association of a ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma aurantifolia’-related strain with C. bipinnatus phyllody in Iran.

Silicon control of bacterial and viral diseases in plants
Silicon plays an important role in providing tolerance to various abiotic stresses and augmenting plant resistance against diseases. However, there is a paucity of reports about the effect of silicon on bacterial and vir...
Susceptibility of olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Diptera: Tephritidae) pupae to entomopathogenic nematodes
The olive fruit fly Bactrocera oleae is one of the most serious and economically damaging insects worldwide, affecting the quality and quantity of both olive oil and table olives. Laboratory bioassays were conducted for...
Occurrence and distribution of nematodes in rice fields in Guilan province, Iran and the first record of Mylonchulus polonicus (Stefanski, 1915) Cobb, 1917 (Nematoda: Mononchina)
The distribution of nematodes was studied in rice fields in Guilan province, Iran, from 2014 to 2016. Nematode biodiversity of 250 soil and root samples was examined. Thirty nematode species were identified morphological...
Integrated control of Lecanium scale (Parthenolecanium sp.) on highbush blueberry in open field and protected crops
The increased cultivation of highbush blueberry in Poland has been paralleled with enhanced damage to this crop by different pests and diseases, including soft scales. We have carried out trials to assess methods for con...
