Abstract
The word obese or fat used to bring on a smile on the lips of the public. But now it brings on a sense of fear because obesity is one of the leading killers of human beings in the world today. The WHO estimates that every second, all over the world 4 times as many people die from the effects of obesity as from smoking. Already an epidemic of obesity is sweeping across the world, with a large number of fat people in the UK, Europe and USA. Now this global alarm has included India in the urban, suburban as well as in the rural areas, obesity is becoming a significant health problem.
