BEARING SYSTEMS OF WIND TURBINES – MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 262, Issue 4

Abstract

In operation of wind turbines of conventional design (with gear), a high failure rate of gears, especially the cylindrical roller bearings of the high-speed shafts, are observed. In Poland, the owner of a large wind farm Energa Wytwarzanie S.A. initiated a research program aimed at diagnosing the roots of failures and propose recommendations to lower operating costs, In the paper, the first findings from the analysis of existing data from the operation of wind turbines of 1.5 MW carried out by Gdańsk University of Technology in cooperation with Poznań University of Technology and AGH University of Science and Technology are presented.
