Behaviors of Associated Arc and Its Influences on Sliding Current Carrying Friction

Abstract
In order to solve the problem that the great impact of associated arc on the current-carrying friction process was difficult to evaluate, the behavior of single associated arc and its impact on the current-carrying friction were studied on a current-carrying frictional probe/plate couples.The results show that the current decreases overall during the process of initiation, development and extinction of the single associated arc.The current is divided into five stages according to the rate of decline, while the change of the voltage is opposite.The average current-carrying efficiency at various stages is not high with the value of 38%42%, and it increases slightly with increase of current.The friction surface is badly damaged by single associated arc, especially the front of ablation region.Moreover, the damage is aggravated with the increase of the current.Thus, the arc is harmful to current-carrying property and friction wear property.
