BORDERLANDS AND CONTACT ZONE: ON THE ISSUE OF STUDY THE THEME IN UKRAINIAN HISTORIOGRAPHY

Abstract

The article is devoted to the issue of coverage in the Ukrainian anthropologists’ works such popular direction in recent decades, as borderlands research. As borderlands is not only the subject of separate investigations of scientists, but the topic of international conferences, the focus of the article is paid to one of these collections of materials – «Odessa ethnographic reading: Ethnic Culture borderlands: local-territorial characteristics». In modern Ukrainian ethnology many researchers drawn to the subject of the so-called ethno and borderland areas in Ukraine, but the idea of this phenomenon are different. Using the terms «borderlands» and «contact zone», the authors do not always resort to explanations often not clear to them whether these concepts are synonymous, whether under a different semantic load. Over the last decade interest to anthropologists Ukrainian borderlands problems increases significantly. Most attention is paid to the borderlands zones near national borders is on Ukrainian territory and within the country.
