CHOICE OF DIAGNOSTICS METHODS OF THE EMPLOYERS' WILLINGNESS TO WORK ALONG WITH OLDER WORKERS

Abstract
Purpose.To justify the choice of research method for diagnostics of the employers' readiness to work with older workers and to explain the methodology content. Aging of the population and raising the retirement age require prolonging working life at older ages. The increase of the labor market tenure depends both on the employees, and on the willingness of employers. Methodology. The proposed research is based on the theoretical explanations from organizational behavior theory, human resource management and human development research. It is based on the investigations of the leading scholars in the domain of labor force ageing. Results. The method of questionnaire is proved to be the most relevant source of empirical information compared to the methods of experiment and observation.The elaborated questionnaire is proposed for diagnosing line managers' intentions and attitudes towards older workers recruiting and retention. A sectional approach is used which implies grouping 55 questions of the questionnaire into 4 thematic blocks. Originality. For the first time in national research practice the investigation methodology of the interpersonal relations between employer and older workers is proposed. The proposed authentic questionnaire allows to assess different aspects of employer’s willingness to work with older people: readiness to employ and to retain older workers; existence of stereotypical beliefs and attitude towards elderly employees ; readiness of the line manageres to adapt working conditions to the specific needs of older workers; evaluation of the managerial support and management capabilities to deal with older workers. Practical value. The proposed research method for diagnostics of the employer’s readiness to work with older workers is aimed at improvement of the organizational and economic bases of interpersonal relations in solving the labor force ageing problem. The elaborated questionnaire could be used as a universal diagnostic tool for the enterprises of any industry interested in retention and employment of the older workers. Analysis of the line managers’ questions would be a factual basis of organizational climate improvement for successful ageing at the workplace. References 14, tables 3.
