Abstract
Indevelopment for more than a decade, the fifth edition of the Diagnosticand Statistical Manualof Mental Disorders (DSM-5) isnow a reality.DSM-5 updates disorder criteria to more precisely capture the experiences and symptoms of children. . Inan effort to improvediagnosis andcare, twonew disorders (social communication disorder,disruptive mood dysregulation disorder) are among the changes made to DSM-5to provide childrenwith an accurate diagnostic home. Changes made to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and texts for child psychiatric disordersareoutlined inthis article.
