Combined Antimicrobial Effect Against Some Isolated Bacteria from Chickens

Journal Title: Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology Advances - Year 2013, Vol 3, Issue 12

Abstract

This study evaluates the activity of amoxicillin in combination with flumequine against some resistant strains. A total of 100 samples were collected from clinical diseases chickens in farms located in Sharkia governorate. The bacteriological and biochemical identification revealed that 40 isolates identified as E. coli (40%), 10 isolates identified as Staph. aureus (10%) and 3 isolates obtained were identified as Klebsiella (3%). The in vitro antimicrobial sensitivity pattern of these isolates were done and the intermediate sensitivity isolates were checked for both qualitative and quantitative methods for different antibiotic combination and the obtained data revealed that there were synergistic interaction between amoxicillin and flumequine for E. coli with fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) (0.25), for Staph. aureus FIC (0.35) and for Klebsiella isolates FIC (0.5). Between doxycycline and colistin for E. coli with FIC (0.25), for Staph. aureus FIC (0.5) and for Klebsiella FIC (0.5). Between amoxicillin and colistin for E. coli FIC (0.5), for Staph. aureus FIC (0.5) and for Klebsiella FIC (0.5).
