Comparison of Analgesic Efficacy of Butorphanol and Fentanyl in Various Surgeries
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Anesthesiology - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 2
Abstract
Background: An ideal perioperative analgesic should offer protection against the pressor response should provide intense analgesia sufficient to relieve pain of surgical incision, maintain the haemodynamic parameters and should provide adequate postoperative analgesia. Aim and objective: To compare analgesic efficacy of butorphanol and fentanyl quantitatively Methodology: 60 patients of either sex between age groups 18-55 years ASA I and II who were posted for surgeries under general anaesthesia. After premedication with inj. glycopyrrolate 5 μg/kg intravenously patients were given butorphanol 20 μg/kg intravenously or fentanyl 1μg/kg intravenously in equianalgesic doses. Results and discussion: Time required to achieve VAS score 4 was higher in butorphanol group as compared to fentanyl group. VAS score at 60 min 2.90 ± 0.19(butorphanol) Vs 3.53 ± 0.17(fentanyl) and VAS score at 90 min. 3.23 ± 0.17(butorphanol ) Vs4.33 ± 0.15(fentanyl)].

Facilitatory effects of IV dexmedetomidine on spinal anaesthesia in patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery involving lower limb
Background: Spinal anaesthesia is at low cost, a surgery of up to two hours duration can be performed. The greatest challenge of the technique is to control the spread of the local anaesthetic through the cerebrospinal fl...
Combination of tranexamic acid and dexmedetomidine reduces postoperative blood loss in patients undergoing bilateral total knee replacement - A randomized controlled study
Background: Total knee replacement in adults is associated with significant blood loss, often requiring allogenic blood transfusion. Tranexamic acid (TEA) reduces blood loss and red cell transfusions in patients undergoi...
A prospective study of comparison of control of bleeding with tranexamic acid vs placebo in acute trauma patients
In our trauma care centre we receive around 2000 cases per month ranging from Polytrauma, Faciomaxillary injury, Both bone fracture Upper limb, Lower limb, Vascular trauma, Abdominal injuries of patients of variable age...
Comparative study on the effect of addition of potassium chloride to bupivacaine on the onset time and duration of inter scalene block
Background: The interscalene block is a more established technique and has been used routinely for shoulder surgery. It is also more associated with well known, but short-lived, side effects than the supraclavicular tech...
