Comparison of Percentage Depth Dose (PDD) in MAGICA and PAGAT Gel Dosimeters with Electron Beams Using MRI Technique

Journal Title: Journal of Science and today’s world - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 12

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dependence of MAGICA and PAGAT polymer gel dosimeters 1/T2 on different electron energies in order to compare the percentage depth dose dependence of MAGICA and PAGAT polymer gel dosimeters in electron beams using MRI technique for a standard clinically used an elekta linear accelerator. Using MRI, the formulation to give the maximum change in the transverse relaxation rate R2 (1/T2) was determined MAGICA gel dosimeter and PAGAT gel dosimeter. When the preparations of final polymer gel solutions are completed, they are transferred into phantoms and allowed to set by storage in a refrigerator at about 4co In this work the response of MAGICA gel is very similar in the lower dose region and the R2- dose response for doses less than 250cGy is not exact. In this study, the percentage depth dose (PDD) of MAGICA polymer gel dosimeter is determined and different phantoms of MAGICA gels was irradiated to 1000cGy of doses by 6, 8, 12 and 18MeV electrons and the maximum percentage depth dose (PDD) is located at the depths of 0.5, 1, 2 and 3cm. The response of PAGAT gel is very similar in the lower dose region and the R2-dose response of the PAGAT polymer gel dosimeter is linear between 10 to 30Gy and the percentage depth dose (PDD) of PAGAT polymer gel dosimeter is determined to 25Gy of doses with electron beams. In electron beams the maximum percentage depth dose (PDD) is located at the depths of 1, 2 and 3cm. At depth of 21cm, the percentage depth dose for 8, 12 and 18MeV is determined, 40.08%, 49.79% and 53.11% respectively.
