Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2014, Vol 30, Issue 2
Abstract
Backgound. The aim of the study was assessment of the effect of the 6-week stabilizing training on changes in the accuracy of kicking the ball as well as strength and endurance of deep muscles in football players. Material and methods. The sample comprised 22 football practitioners (experimental group with applied elements of stabilizing training) aged 24.2 ±4.8 years whose average body height was 181.2 cm ±4.7 cm and the average body mass was 77.2 kg ±5.8 kg, and 22 football practitioners (control group) aged 25.6 ±5.5 years with average body mass and body height amounting to 181.9 cm ±4.1 cm and 76.7 kg ±6.3 kg respectively. The mea su re ments of strength and endurance of deep muscles were taken using a stabilizer while the kicking accuracy was measured based on specific task performance. The time interval between the measurements was 6 weeks. The results obtained from two measurements were compared between subjects and between groups. Results. The study showed statistically significant changes in two out of three studied parameters between the first and the second measurement (p<0.05). Differences were also found between the experimental group and the control group. The analysis using Wilcoxon’s signed rank test and Mann-Whitney U test showed significant relationships between the elements of stabilizing training and the improvement of the studied parameters. Conclusions. The studied footballers who underwent stabilizing training were characterized by greater accuracy of kicking as well as the strength and endurance of deep muscles in comparison with the control group subjects.
