Cytokine Production and Human Cytomegalovirus Load in Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Outcome
Journal Title: International Journal of Immunotherapy and Cancer Research - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the impact of cytokine levels (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, IFN-γ and TNF-α) and Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) load in the saliva and blood on the survival of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) recipients. Study Design: Samples were obtained from 63 patients 7 days before and 21 days after allo-HSCT. Cytokine levels were assessed by ELISA, and HCMV load was determined by real-time PCR. Results: The increase of IL-6 in the saliva and the reduction of IFN-γ in the blood before allo-HSCT were associated with increased risk of death. Moreover, the increase of IL-6 in the blood and of HCMV in the saliva after allo-HSCT were also associated with increased risk of death. Conclusions: Cytokine levels and HCMV load were associated with the increased risk of death. The findings suggest a potential function of these biomarkers in the determination of allo-HSCT survival.

A Study of Glucosylceramide Synthase and Glycolytic Pathway Enzymes in Patients with Hypereosinophilia
Glucosylceramide synthase is the rate limiting enzyme in ceramide glycosylation and shifts the balance between ceramide and glycosphingolipids towards proliferation and survival of cancer cells. Increased glucose availab...

Dalton’s Lymphoma as a Murine Model for Understanding the Progression and Development of T-Cell Lymphoma and Its Role in Drug Discovery
Mouse models are irreplaceable tools for the study of carcinogenesis and the availability of rodent models have enabled rational screening of drugs. Hematological malignancies have been extensively studied in mouse model...
Osteotropism of Breast and Prostate Cancer: Clinical and Experimental Perspective
Breast and prostate cancer are the two most common invasive cancers in women and men, respectively. Although these cancers arise in organs that are different in terms of structure and function, both organs require sexual...
Adiponectin Regulates the Development and Progression of MCA-Induced Sarcoma in Mice
Background: Sarcomas are malignant tumors with low survival rates and remain refractory to the current therapeutic methods. Adiponectin plays crucial roles in many physiological responses. Studies have shown that adipone...
