Daylight prediction in individual floors using well index
Journal Title: Architecture Civil Engineering Environment - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 0
Abstract
This research is focused on assessing daylight performance in different floors based on the building proportion. Previous studies showed that atrium with the same Well Index (proportion) will receive the same daylight. This study aims to examine the relation between daylight in different floors of a building, using Well Index. Using DIVA for Rhino and DesignBuilder as the optimized daylight and energy simulation tools, this paper employs Daylight Autonomy (DA) and thermal performance as measured metrics. The research findings have demonstrated that Well Index can be a valid indicator to characterize proportion for assessing daylight at individual floors in buildings. This methodology improves the existing research method by proving that spaces with the same Well Index will have very close dynamic daylight metrics under the same condition, assumptions and material properties.

Silesian conurbation as a polycentric structure of urban districts
The Silesian conurbation consists of cities, which in many aspects function as one metropolitan organism. This paper is an attempt to characterise the structure of the Silesian conurbation not as composed of cities, but...
Cadmium and lead content in the barrier dusts sampled from the noise barriers located near to Poznań (Poland) – a preliminary study
High levels of heavy metals in the environment are dangerous for humans due to possible bioaccumulation of such contaminants by edible plants and herbivores. In this study, total content of cadmium and lead in the barri...
Investigations into the resistance of sin girders reinforced with tensioned diagonal braces
The study presents the means of increasing resistance of girders with corrugated web by enhancing their shear resistance due to the application of diagonal braces subjected to advantageous tension. Diagonal braces were u...
Effect of metakaolin developed from local natural material soorh on workability, compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and drying shrinkage of concrete
The utilization of pozzolanic materials like metakaolin (MK) in cement mortar and concrete is growing in construction industry all around the world to reduce the CO2 release into the atmosphere and reduce energy consumpt...
