Delayed Branch Retinal Artery Occlusion and Partial Oculomotor Nerve Palsy Following Coiling of a Giant Intracavernous Carotid Artery Aneurysm
Journal Title: Journal of Ocular Biology - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Coil embolization is a non-invasive and effective method of treating intracranial aneurysm s not amendable to surgical clipping by inducing thrombus formation. However, ophthalmic complications and cranial nerve injury are rarely encountered following the procedure. We report a case of inferior branch retinal artery occlusion and partial oculomotor nerve palsy of the right eye seven days after coil embolization and balloon occlusion of a giant intracavernous right internal carotid artery aneurysm in an 18 year old healthy Caucasian man. After three months, there was resolution of the oculomotornerve palsy, but superior arcuatescotoma remained unchanged. Baseline ophthalmic examinations and discussion of potential ophthalmic risks with patients prior to the interventional aneurysm coiling procedures are recommended.

Regulation of Adherens Junctions in Trabecular Meshwork Cells by Rac GTPase and their influence on Intraocular Pressure
Intercellular adherens junctions and cell-extracellular matrix interactions are presumed to influence aqueous humor (AH) drainage via the conventional route, however, their direct role in modulation of intraocular pressu...
Evaluation of Dry Eye in patients with Psoriasis
Purpose: To evaluate the role of routine tear film tests such as Schirmer, tear film break up time (TBUT), Rose Bengal staining (RBS) and conjunctival impression cytology for dry eye evaluation in patients with psoriasis...
Levels of Plasma Homocysteine,Serum Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma - A Case Control Study
Purpose: To study the levels of Plasma homocysteine and serum vitamin B12 and folic acid in cases of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma(POAG). Methods: It was a case-control cross sectional observational study for duration of...
Effect of a Soluble Epoxide Hydrolase Inhibitor, UC1728, on LPS-Induced Uveitis in the Rabbit
Cytochrome P450 epoxygenase isozymes convert free arachidonic acid into eicosanoids named epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) that have roles in regulating inflammation. EETs are rapidly converted to dihydroxyeicosatrienoic...
Upregulation of GADD45α, TP53 and CASP3 mRNA Expression in the Rat Lens after In vivo Exposure to Sub-threshold Dose of UVR B
Purpose: The objective of the present study was to investigate the evolution of mRNA expression of the stress sensor GADD45α, the apoptosis initiator TP53 and the apoptosis executor CASP3 in the rat lens after in vivo ex...
