Design and Measurement of Near-Field-Focused Planar Arrays

Abstract
In order to develop the focusing antenna used in the field of microwave hyperthermia, based on the principle of electromagnetic focusing, 4 × 4 near field focused planar microstrip array antenna with an operating frequency of 2.45 GHz was designed and fabricated.The phase required for each radiating element was obtained by calculation.The distance from the feed point to each radiating element was adjusted to control the phase of each radiating element so that the electric field of the radiating element had an in-phase superposition at a given point to realize near-field focusing.The simulation and test results show that the electric field energy of the antenna array is the largest at the focal point.On the sides of the focal point, the electric field energy shows a downward trend.The focusing spot is circular with 124 mm diameter, and the focusing depth is 62 cm.
