Determination of fuel consumption and concentration of harmful substances for warming the engine of a car in conditions of low ambient temperatures

Abstract

Recently, there has been a rapid increase in the use of motor transport and its concentration in cities. This is the reason why atmospheric air pollution by exhaust gases is currently considered the most urgent problem. The degree of pollution of atmospheric air depends primarily on the qualitative and quantitative composition of the exhaust gases. The content of harmful substances in the exhaust gases of cars is affected by a number of important factors: the type of engine and the features of its design, its technical condition, operating modes and other factors. The methods of automobile engine warming up and their influence on fuel consumption and dynamics of change of concentrations of harmful substances are investigated. It was established that the method of engine warming significantly affects both the time of engine and neutralization heating and fuel consumption by the engine of the car and on the reduction of concentrations of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons upon entering the operating mode. The combined mode is defined, which is the most appropriate when setting the optimal ratios of heating time in idle mode and in motion. Obtained data are promising for further evaluation of methods in terms of environmental pollution.
