Diagnosis and treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphomas

Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2011, Vol 24, Issue 7

Abstract

Non-Hodgkin lymphomas are a group of malignancies characterized by a clonal expansion of lymphoid cells of B, T and natural killer cell lineages on various stages of their differentiation. Since lymphoid cells are morphologically and functionally very heterogenous and present in many organs, lymphomas show various histological and clinical presentations. Therapy depends on their histology, clinical stage and prognostic factors at presentation. For clinical purposes allowing to establish an optimal therapeutic strategy, this group of malignancies could be divided into low grade (indolent), high grade (aggressive) and very aggressive lymphomas.
