Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2019, Vol 9, Issue 3
Abstract
Acute inflammatory conditions of abdomen refers as acute abdomen. This includes signs and symptoms of abdominal pain and tenderness. After detailed clinical examinations, this condition often requires emergency surgical treatment. Acute Abdomen requires a thorough and expeditious workup to establish the diagnosis and need for operative intervention and to initiate appropriate therapy. The first and most challenging is to make proper and timely diagnosis so that treatment can be initiated and morbidity can be reduced. The CRP and WBC (total and differential leukocyte counts) are being routinely used as diagnostic and prognostic indicators in acute abdomen cases. Plasma Procalcitonin, which is a highly specific marker for the diagnosis of bacterial infection and sepsis, Now added in this group as marker for acute abdomen .To establish emerging role of these diagnostic markers we carried out this study with aims to compare the these serological markers of acute inflammation in patients with acute abdomen.
