Drying of orange peel in a heat pump dryer
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
In this study, the orange peels were experimentally dried in a heat pump dryer and the results obtained during drying process were investigated. The orange that has a high potential in Turkey, is usually grown in Mediterranean and Aegean regions. The data related to the relative humidity of drying air, temperature and air velocity were entered from Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) screen and they were controlled according to set value. The relative humidity of drying air was maintained in the range of 7% - 14% by using dehumidification unit during the experiments. The highest coefficient of performance (COPws) of whole system was calculated as 3,83 at the end of the experiments which was carried out at 45 C° 1 m/s. The orange peels were dried from 3gwater/gdry matter to 0.09gwater/gdry matter in 8 hours 45 minutes. As a result of this study, it is considered that the orange peels have significant contribution to the economy when they are assessed by drying process.
