Durability of concretes on limestone crushed stone treated with cement slurry

Abstract
Strength, water resistance and frost resistance of concrete with limestone rubble was investigated. The rubble grade was used for strength 600. Two parallel series of samples were produced. The first series was made by traditional technology. The second series was made with preliminary treatment of rubble with a cement slurry. In both series, the amount of silica fume varied from 0 to 40 kg/m3 and superplasticizer S-3 from 0.5 to 1%. All the mixtures had equal mobility. The W/C mixture decreases with an increase in the amount of S-3 and conversely increases with the introduction of silica fume. The greatest compressive strength, frost resistance and water resistance are concretes with a quantity of silica fume of 20-25 kg/m3 and additive S-3 of about 0.9%. The use of preliminary treatment of porous gravel increases the water resistance of concrete and its compressive strength. The positive effect of crushed stone processing can be explained by hardening the porous aggregate and contact zone, as well as increasing the uniformity of the rubble. Maximum compression strength of concrete of 60 MPa, tensile strength of 8 MPa, water resistance W14, frost resistance F400. Thus, modified concrete on limestone crushed stone provides high durability of structures.
