Działalność kulturalno-literacka Wandy Wasilewskiej w latach 1934–1945

Abstract
The present analysis is dedicated to Wanda Wasilewska, who became very controversial figure recently. She is judged on her political and social activity during the war as well as on her literature output that represented socialist realism. The aim of the article is to depict and recount Wasilewska’s literary achievements and to show her social cultural and literary activities in a different new light. Wasilewska, as a writer, fought with her writing and also deeds for „free and democratic” homeland. She came from family of patriotic background with leftist convictions. The atmosphere of her family house influenced Wasilewska’s social consciousness. She studied in the 1920s Polish studies at the Jagiellonian University. After the outbreak of Second World War, she went to the east and became a director of Soviet theatre in Lviv, she even joined the Russian Army, contributed to the establishment of Union of Polish Patriots and also the Polish 1st Tadeusz Kościuszko Infantry Division, also First Polish Army in Soviet Union. At the same time, she wrote articles in newspapers, edited works and published war novels (Homeland, The nature of a day, The Earth in yoke, The flame on the bogs, Rivers are burning).
