Effect of Training and Development Based Strategy on Productivity of Employees-An Empirical Investigation

Abstract

Training and development function hones the skillfulness, expertise, and efficiency of employees consequently improving the organizational productivity. Like in all other sectors, it is a key HRM function in banking sector too. A strongly structured T&D plan curtails randomness and facilitates attitude and behavioral change. Once put into action, the plan not only broadens the horizons of employee intellect but also grooms their personality. This study uses development based theory in order to evaluate the status of T&D practices in one branch each of PNB and HDFC bank and also establishes a link of training practices with productivity. The results indicate ‘mediocrity’ of training being imparted in both branches and concludes that perception of training significantly differs with demographic parameters of gender and designation.
