Journal Title: JOURNAL OF MEDICAL COLLEGE CHANDIGARH - Year 2017, Vol 7, Issue 2

Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition effecting women in their reproductive years. The common symptoms of endometriosis include dysmenorrhea, nonmenstrual pelvic pain, and dyspareunia. It is one of the important factors associated with infertility. Many drugs and hormonal preparations are used for management of endometriosis related pain. Certain surgical interventions may be done if patients do not respond to oral therapy. Elagolix is an oral, nonpeptide, gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist that suppresses ovarian estrogen production in dose dependent manner. The content of this article reviews the details of this oral drug.
