Medical management of diabetes in elderly: Current perspectives

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a common chronic illness with a wide spectrum of complications as well as psychological, emotional and socio-economic consequences. Diabetes in elderly is characterized by co-morbid illnesses, polypharmacy,cognitiveimpairment,andmultiplephysicalandfunctionallimitations. Fundamentally,theclinician and patient should carve out realistic goals focusing on preventing hypoglycemic episodes, reducing hyperglycemic symptoms and treating microvascular and macrovascular quality of life should be the priorities in this population.
