EMPATHIC ATTITUDES OF INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED ADOLESCENTS VERSUS PERCEPTION OF PARENTAL ATTITUDES

Journal Title: Szkoła Specjalna - Year 2009, Vol 2009, Issue 2

Abstract

This article attempts to determine the level of empathic attitudes in the studied adole-scents with mild intellectual disabilities. The present paper attempts to establish whether there are statistically significant differences between 15–18-year-old people with mild intellectual disabilities and people with no mental impairments in terms of empathic behaviors which they demonstrate. The analysis also takes into consideration the gender factor of the studied groups of adolescents.Among the factors of empathy, special attention was paid to parental attitudes. The presented material also discusses the issue of the relationship between parents’ attitudes (perceived by adolescents) and the level of empathic responses demonstrated by the studied groups.
