FAN GROUPINGS AS A SUBJECT OF CIVIL SOCIETY: THE POSSIBILITY OF USING IN POLITICAL STRUGGLE
Journal Title: Наукові праці. Серія "Політологія" - Year 2017, Vol 309, Issue 297
Abstract
Participation of sports fans in various protests and demonstrations (as well as the reaction of the public and even the international community to the actions of such communities) suggests the enormous potential of fan groupings as an independent consolidated structure of civil society. So this structure is capable of lobbying its own interests both peacefully and through confron-tation with the police, other groups of interests, and representatives of state power. In this paper an attempt is made to determine the features of the use of fan groupings in the political struggle. This problem is relevant due to the spread of the practice of involving fan communities in political struggle, the use of such groups by politicians and the resonant social consequences of their interaction. The purpose of this article is to determine the possibility of using fan groups as a subject of civil society in a political struggle. Dia-lectical, structural-functional and synergetic approaches are theoretical and methodological basis of the research. Results of the study can be applied in various fields of political science, law, sociology, both academic and practical purposes. The authors analyz-es the main content of the research subject in the national and European discourse; the own definition of the concept «fan groupings in a political struggle» is given; a retrospective of the use of fan groups in the political struggle is determined; the features of fan groups that are especially important in the context of political struggle are selected; the main risks of using fan groupings in politics are revealed. The paper also mentions some recommendations of reducing the negative impact of the use of fan groups in politics. It is worth noting that there are some features of fan groups: a latent politicization, a high organization, the speed of reaction and the ability to achieve goals (including force methods). We can conclude that modern professional sports (including fan clubs as an im-portant component of it) turn into a full-fledged instrument of political influence. So mass events contribute to diverting attention from pressing issues and imposing by politicians their political will and point of view.
