From Utrecht to Tilsit: Mediterranean Policy of the Great Britain

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the Great Britain Policy towards Mediterranean during 18th and at the beginning of 19th century. The study is prepared from the important developments that have occurred in the Mediterranean world. In this context, the limits of the study starts with the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 and ends with the Treaty of Tilsit in 1807. This study emphasizes Great Britain’s power struggles with France in the Mediterranean among this period. Starting from the hypothesis of the Mediterranean became even more valuable for Great Britain after the British rule began in India, the study claims that Great Britain followed a foreign policy to maintain the status quo.
